The Last of theInternational Playboys (Transcontinental 9701) Vegas Jazz and Latin Lounge from the Big Apple. That's what you get in this swell debut release from The Last of the International Playboys. You get it all with this one. Subtle samba, late night lounge, swingtime big band and even side trips into the exotic. Vik's happy to see the new scholl is not dead. There is a delicious reverence here often lacking in many of the new bands. Accomplished musicians and songwriters, TLOTIP will delight even the most cynical listener. Plus...the have an accordian player! If this doesn't convince you, nothing will! L'AtomeThe Flash of Light (Sheer 1) Head north and west of NYC and you're bound to discover Oregon. (Well you are!) The city of Phoenix, Oregon has spawned yet another entry into the new school of cocktail sounds. L'Atome is the brainchild of Edouard Polonais and E.C. Cornell joined by chanteuse Thea Von Harbou. Get past the rather cheesy opening synth workout (think Vangelis) and you'll find yourself firmly in hipster territory. This is the cool sound of the '60s. You'd swear you were listening to yet another compilation, but you'd be wrong! The compositions are all original and swing like hell. This has been trapped in Vik's CD player for several weeks (driving many employees at the lounge insane). Want more info? Drop by the L'Atome website and tell them Vik sent you. |
