Product Music (Honest Abe Disc! 94004)

Ever been to a corporate convention? One of those mandatory retreats where the company tries to rally the troops? No!?! Well, not really surprising...but there exists a bizarre musical genre around these corporate festivals: Product Music. The sounds wafting from speakers at these retreats have been collected by this Japanese label and released as a 20 track CD. Not a collection for everybody, you will like it only if you see the surreality of pop tunes about tractors, bath tubs, Slurpees, Fritos, and more. Many who heard this hated it, but Vik has to love it if only for the 10 1/2 minute epic "The Eight Seasons of Chromalox". Limited edition of 1000, it has been spotted at Other Music in NYC. Fair liner notes give a little background on each track.

Hooray for Human Engineering (Clark Equipment) - Tractor Drivin' Man (Ford Motor Company) - My Bathroom Is a Private Kind of Place (American Standards) - Look At This Tub (American Standards) - My Ultra Bath (American Standards) - Dance The Slurp (7-11) - Gentle On My Mind (May Kay Products) - He's A Penny Man (JC Penny's) - Power Flower (Westinghouse) - Standing On The Corner (Ford Motor Company) - Shake It! The Moog Cookbook

Those wishing proof of the circularity of music history need look no further than this amusing release from Restless. Slated for a May 7th street date, the Moog Cookbook takes some of today's favorite post-modern rock hits and puts them through the magic of Moog and other space-age keyboards. Before you purists run into the street screaming crass exploitation, Vik must remind you of the fine tradition of Moog Beatles, Moog Bacharach, and countless other such projects. You may bemoan Soundgarden or Offspring done Moog, but see the beauty of a lost art being reborn.

Tracks:Black Hole Sun -- Buddy Holly -- Basket Case -- Come Out And Play -- Free Fallin' -- Are You Gonna Go My Way -- Smells Like Teen Spirit -- Evenflow -- The One I Love -- Rockin' In The Free World
