Trader Vic - The Ambassador Of The Tiki-Lounge

by Sven-tiki

For anyone who wants to grasp the essential feel of a Tiki lounge in the 60s and experience the meeting of modern and primitive style at the height of American dolce vita, the viewing of the 1964 b&w Cuban/Russian propaganda film "I AM CUBA" is a must. It seems ironic that the best "authentic" Tiki lounge scenes discovered on film so far were shot and directed by Russians in Cuba to indict American decadence. The film's beginning feels as if Orson Welles, Fellini and Eisenstein decided to get together for cocktails at Trader Vic's.
